Week 4 Notes:
Gulf Coast Challenge: The inaugural Gulf Coast Challenge between Southern and Alabama A&M will be played at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama. The game is not officially connected to the former Gulf Coast Classic, which Southern competed in 13 times — the last being against Alabama State in the final edition of the game in 2009.  The Gulf Coast Challenge will have several of the extracurricular activities associated with Classic games, including a kickoff concert, a college and career fair, a pregame parade and a tailgate party. Tim Hale Jr., the executive director of the Gulf Coast Challenge, said a second line from the tailgate and into the stadium will be led by the Mobile based Jukebox Brass Band.
  • Texas Southern triplets: Texas Southern is led offensively by sophomore receiver Tren'Davian Dickson who has 16 receptions for 264 yards and three touchdowns. Two quarterbacks have seen action under center for TSU with senior Glen Cuiellette leading the way by completing 43-of-78 passes for 529 yards with five touchdowns against four interceptions. Senior Jay Christophe has completed 21-of-40 passes for 315 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. Senior Brad Woodard leads the Tigers in rushing with 29 attempts for 98 yards.
  • Red Wolves connection: The Alabama State-Grambling State game will feature two quarterbacks that transferred from Arkansas State (Aldon Clark - Grambling State; Darryl Pearson - Alabama State). Clark has completed 22-of-33 passes for 172 yards with no touchdowns. Pearson has completed 32-of-63 passes for 458 yards with two touchdowns.
  • Rushing King: Prairie View A&M junior running back Dawonya Tucker leads not only the SWAC, but all of FCS football with a nation-best 603 rushing yards.  Tucker is followed by Southeast Missouri State’s Marquis Terry (590), Wagner’s Ryan Fulse (499), Incarnate Word’s Ra’Quanne Dickens (469) and Davidson’s Wesley Dugger (457).
  • Catch me if you can: Arkansas-Pine Bluff junior wide receiver Josh Wilkes ranks third in FCS in receiving yards with 500 and is averaging 166.7 yards per contest with four touchdowns.  Wilkes only trails Chattanooga’s Bryce Nunnelly (546) and Duquesne’s Nehair Crawford (507).
  • Sittin’ in the Hall of Fame: Setting 19 West Virginia, Big East and national records during his illustrious playing career, Alcorn State University assistant football coach Pat White will be inducted into the WVU Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday.
White will not be present for his induction when the Mountaineers host Kansas State. He will be with the Braves for their 6 p.m. game against Mississippi Valley State.
  • Booking good field position: Mississippi Valley State return specialist Booker Chambers leads the conference in kick return average with 30.8 yards per return.  Chambers has a long of 79 yards on the season.
