SWAC VOLLEYBALL AND SOCCER PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

VOLLEYBALL

OFFENSIVE

MB Emma Obi, Texas Southern; 5-9, SR; El Paso, TX

Obi tallied 16 kills in a 3-1 divisional win over Southern last week to average 4.0 kills per set. She also added five blocks and two service aces in the victory.

Obi is currently ranked fourth in the conference in hitting percentage (.238). This is her second Player of the Week honor this season.

DEFENSIVE

DS/L Rose Corneille, Alabama A&M; 5-7, JR; Dacula, GA

Corneille recorded 40 digs over three matches as the Bulldogs went 2-1 including two wins in the first ever Betty K. Austin Invitational. Corneille also had five service aces and three blocks for the week.

Corneille leads the SWAC with a 4.11 digs per game average. This is her second Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.

NEWCOMER

OH Sapphire Reid, Prairie View A&M; 5-9, FR; Copperas Cove, TX

Reid amassed 19 kills, 18 digs, and three blocks as her Lady Panthers went 1-1 last week, including a 3-0 divisional win over Southern.

This is Reid's second Newcomer of the Week honor this season.

SOCCER

OFFENSIVE

M Jade West, Univ. Arkansas-Pine Bluff; 5-6, SO; Ajax, Canada

West scored three goals in the Lady Lions' 12-0 victory over Alabama State. She also nabbed two assists in the match, accounting for eight points in the win.

West currently leads the SWAC in points (14) and assists (6). This is her second Player of the Week honor this season.

DEFENSIVE

D Dominique Denmark, Grambling State; 5-4, FR; Palm Bay, FL

Denmark led a Lady Tigers' defense that pitched two shutouts last week and only allowed four shots in two matches.

This is Denmark's second Defensive Player of the Week honor of the year.

GOALKEEPER

GK Cherie Silas, Grambling State; 5-9, SR; Rancho Cucamonga, CA

In two matches last week, Silas recorded four saves and two shutout wins for GSU.

Silas is tied for first in the conference in shutouts (4) and second in goals against average (1.48). This is her third Goalkeeper of the Week honor.
