SWAC VOLLEYBALL AND SOCCER PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

VOLLEYBALL

OFFENSIVE

S Erin Fondel, Prairie View A&M; 5-5, JR; Longview, TX

Fondel tallied 94 assists, 22 digs, nine kills, five service aces, and four blocks as her Lady Panthers went 2-2 last weekend, including a pair of wins over divisional foe Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

For her performance, Fondel was named to the Lady Panther Invitational All-Tournament team.

DEFENSIVE

DS/L Rose Corneille, Alabama A&M; 5-7, JR; Dacula, GA

In four matches last weekend, Corneille accumulated 66 digs, including 27 versus Western Michigan during the Indiana University Invitational.

Corneille, who currently leads her team in digs (3.68 per game), was named to the IU Invitational All-Tournament team for her efforts.

NEWCOMER

OH/RS Clarissa Moore, Alabama A&M; 5-11, FR; Houston, TX

Moore recorded 27 kills, 16 digs, and nine service aces in four matches last week, including a win over North Carolina A&T.

Moore currently leads the Bulldogs in kills (2.32 per game) and service aces (0.51 per game).

SOCCER

OFFENSIVE

Grambling State Rachele Dobbins


F Rachele Dobbins, Grambling State; 5-6, SO; Little Rock, AR

Dobbins scored the game-winning goal at the 89:15 minute mark to help propel the Lady Tigers over McNeese State 2-1 last Sunday.

The goal was Dobbins' first of the season.

DEFENSIVE

D Kendall Smith, Southern; 5-5, SR; West Chapel, FL

Smith spearheaded a Lady Jaguar defense that recorded 13 saves in two games last weekend.

Southern is ranked third in the league in saves, averaging 9.71 per game.

GOALKEEPER

GK Cherie Silas, Grambling State; 5-9, SR; Rancho Cucamonga, CA

In two games last week, Silas registered 21 saves, while holding McNeese State to just one goal as the Lady Tigers defeated the Cowgirls 2-1.

Silas is presently ranked second in the SWAC in saves (10.50 per game) and third in goals against average (1.83 per game).
