SWAC VOLLEYBALL AND SOCCER PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

VOLLEYBALL

OFFENSIVE

MB Emma Obi, Texas Southern; 5-9, SR; El Paso, TX

Obi tallied 35 kills, 13 digs, eight blocks and five service aces in three wins for the Lady Tigers last week. For her efforts, Obi was named the Texas Southern Season Opener Tournament Most Valuable Player.

Obi currently leads her team and is sixth in the conference with a .242 hitting percentage.

DEFENSIVE

L Sarah Garcia, Prairie View A&M; 5-5, SO; McAllen, TX

Garcia registered 45 digs, five assists, and one service ace as the Lady Panthers went 2-1 in the Texas Southern Season Opener Tournament last weekend.

Garcia leads the Lady Panthers and is fourth in the conference with a 3.77 digs per game average.

NEWCOMER

S April Brown, Mississippi Valley State; 5-7, FR; Yorkton, Saskatchewan

Brown recorded 94 assists, 15 digs, and one block in three matches for the Devilettes last week, including a win over Dillard in the TSU Opener.

Brown presently averages 8.47 assists per game, first on her team and second in the conference.

SOCCER

OFFENSIVE

F Jade West, Univ. of Arkansas-Pine Bluff; 5-5, SO; Ajax, Canada

West nabbed two goals last week including the game-winning goal over Arkansas State, which proved to be the biggest win in UAPB soccer program history. West's other goal came in the Lady Loin's 2-0 win over Lipscomb.

West currently leads the conference in points (five) and goals (two).

DEFENSIVE

D Florence Onyera, Texas Southern; 5-6, FR; Houston, TX

Onyera assisted the Lady Tigers in a shutout effort last week as the squad posted a 4-0 win over Huston-Tillotson.Onyera also had one goal, three shots, and two shots on goal during the game.

GOALKEEPER

GK Chelsea Klein, Univ. of Arkansas-Pine Bluff; 5-11, FR; North Vancouver, Canada In three games, Klein accumulated 31 saves while helping the Lady Lions pitch two shutouts and holding Arkansas State to just one goal.

Klein leads the conference in goals against average (0.28), save percentage (.971), and shutouts (two).
