Lee Announces 2010 Signees

(Courtesy of MVSU Sports Information) - The Mississippi Valley State women's softball team announces its initial four signees for the 2010 season. MVSU head coach Lee Smith hopes that the initial group of signees will become vital parts to the program as the Devilettes look to defend their six consecutive SWAC softball titles.

"We were looking for ladies who fit our mold of aggressive players both at the plate and in the field," said Smith. "We are continuing to build our program with the goal of having a successful 2010 season."

Kimberly Spivey, a 5-foot-5 pitcher/utility from Dallas, Texas, comes to the Devilettes with an impressive resume. The Hillcrest High School product built an 84-17 overall record over her four seasons with Hillcrest. During her senior season, she was 18-1 with a 0.47 earned run average. She was Pitcher of the Year, first-team all-district and most valuable player for four consecutive seasons. Outstanding in the classroom, she also was a member of the A-B honor roll each academic high school year. Spivey currently plays travel softball for Texas Fusion Gold.

Alexandria Robertson, a 5-foot-5 middle infielder from Austin, Texas, also brings quality statistics to the program. While at Leander High School, she was a first-team all-district selection as well as a Dazzling Dozen honoree for four consecutive years. She was named the team's most valuable player in 2009 while receiving top offensive and defensive awards during her senior season. As a senior, she batted .327 with a slugging percentage of .531. Robertson had five home runs, three triples, and 19 RBI while scoring 18 runs. As a junior, she batted .333 with an on-base mark of .511 while scoring 20 runs on 26 hits with seven doubles, two triples and three home runs. In the field, she 47 assists as a junior and 42 as a senior. She currently plays summer ball for the Texas Comets Gold.

Jasmine Wilson, a 5-foot-5 first baseman/outfielder from Spring Valley High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, comes to Mississippi Valley with outstanding hitting credentials. A career .500 hitter over four seasons, she was an all-division selection each year on the high school level. As a freshman, she batted .513 with eight doubles, seven triples and 17 RBI. During her sophomore season, she led the state with a .673 batting average along with four doubles, three triples and 25 RBI. After her junior season - in which she finished with a .493 batting average, five triples and 20 RBI - Wilson capped her career with a .538 average, 11 doubles, six triples, four home runs and 28 RBI as a senior. She was a scholar-athlete with a 3.9 cumulative GPA as well as being named Las Vegas Review-Journal Female Athlete of the Week several times. She currently plays summer softball for the Las Vegas Lil' Rebels.

Rachelle Harris, a 5-foot-2 second baseman/outfielder from Nimitz High School in Houston, Texas, comes to Mississippi Valley after one season as a member of the Iona College Gaels softball team. In 22 games in 2009, she had 20 hits (three doubles and two home runs), scored ten runs and had seven RBI. She drew ten walks and stole six bases. As a four-year member of the Nimitz High School softball team, she was a first-team all-district all four years. While a freshman at Nimitz, she led the all-greater Houston area in stolen bases with 45. As a sophomore, she led the district in extra-base hits and was in the top ten in stolen bases and batting average before leading the district in stolen bases as a junior. During her senior year, she hit five home runs including her first career grand slam. She was Nimitz team most valuable player for three years while also earning three letters in volleyball and two in basketball.
