BIRMINGHAM - Mississippi Valley State Pitcher Lisa Jansen has been named to the 2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region first-team as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association today.
Jansen, a 5-foot-9 junior from Dietzenbach, Germany, helped lead the Devilettes to their sixth consecutive SWAC championship title this past season. She led all league pitchers during the regular season with 117 batters struck out, 31 batters struck out looking, and 12 wins. Jansen also allowed the fewest hits (76), runs (41), doubles (10) and earned runs (35) in regular season conference play. For her efforts, Jansen was named the 2009 SWAC Pitcher of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.
A total of 264 players from 121 different institutions comprise the Louisville Slugger/NFCA regional teams. The teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American first, second or third team. The NFCA Division I All-Americans teams will be announced at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 27.
Mississippi Valley State will travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama this weekend to open NCAA Regional Tournament play. The Devilettes will take on host school Alabama on Friday, May 15 at 6 p.m.
