This Week in SWAC Soccer

•Week #10 Action: All ten SWAC soccer teams will hit the field this weekend as three divisional match-ups and six cross-divisional matches are scheduled.

•West Division makes Strong Showing: With the exception of Jackson State defeating Southern 5-0, all other Western Division teams overcame its Eastern Division foes as the West went 7-1 against the East last weekend. Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern both shutout the defending champions Mississippi Valley State. The Texas schools also took down Alcorn State over the weekend. Arkansas-Pine Bluff recorded a 12-0 victory over Alabama State while Grambling State shutout Alabama A&M and Alabama State.

•What to watch for this Weekend: Three divisional match-ups are slated for this weekend and Jackson State will participate in two of them which should prove to be key in the race for the 2009 SWAC Championship in two weeks. The Lady Tigers will look to maintain its undefeated Eastern Division record as they travel to Alabama State and Alabama A&M on Friday and Sunday, respectively. J-State is 3-0-2 over the last five games and will try to claim the #1 spot in the east going into the tournament. The West's only match-up of the weekend will see #3 Texas Southern take on #4 Prairie View A&M in a Texas showdown on Friday. The Lady Panthers are 0-2 in the conference but will aim to overcome the Lady Tigers and gain some ground in the west standings.
