SWAC VOLLEYBALL AND SOCCER PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
VOLLEYBALL
OFFENSIVE
OH Brittany Larkin, Jackson State; 5-10, JR; N. Little Rock, AR
Larkin produced 54 kills along with 13 digs and six blocks in five matches last week, including four wins at the Southern Invitational. Her efforts helped the Lady Tigers claim the title at the 25th annual volleyball tournament.
Larkin, who currently leads her team and is sixth in the SWAC with a 2.51 kills per game average, was named the Most Valuable Player of the SU Invitational.
DEFENSIVE
L Jasmine Hale, Prairie View A&M; 5-9, JR; San Antonio, TX
Hale recorded 70 digs while adding six assists in five matches for the Lady Panthers last week, including three wins. Hale's performance helped propel Prairie View A&M to a spot in the championship match against Jackson State at the SU Invitational.
Hale averages a team-best 2.99 digs per game.
NEWCOMER
OH/RS Clarissa Moore, Alabama A&M; 5-11, FR; Houston, TX
Moore registered 24 kills, nine digs, and three service aces in just two matches and six sets for the Bulldogs last week. In a divisional win over Mississippi Valley State, Moore recorded an impressive .529 hitting percentage for the match.
This is Moore's third Player of the Week honor this season.
SOCCER
OFFENSIVE
F Nicole Parks-Powell, Univ. Arkansas-Pine Bluff; 6-1, SO; Tracy, CA
Parks-Powell scored three goals last week as the Lady Lions posted two divisional wins over Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M.
With her three goals, Parks-Powell now leads UAPB in goals for the season.
DEFENSIVE
D Lea Rohan, Jackson State; 5-2, FR; Las Vegas, NV
Rohan was key in a Jackson State defense that pitched two shutouts last week, including a 3-0 victory over divisional and in-state foe Alcorn State and a 0-0 double overtime tie against Mississippi Valley State.
In the match against Alcorn State, the Lady Tigers' defense didn't allow the Lady Braves to get off a single shot.
GOALKEEPER
GK Pam Johnston, Mississippi Valley State; 5-9, FR; London, Ontario
In two games last week, Johnston recorded 19 saves while only allowing one goal in a win and a tie for the Devilettes.
This is Johnston's second Goalkeeper of the Week honor this season. She currently leads the SWAC in the saves per game category, averaging 11.25.
