Jaguars, Bulldogs to meet in '08 title rematch
BESSEMER, AL – Defending Champion Southern and Alabama A&M will face off in the Championship match of the 2009 SWAC Bowling Championship at Holiday Bowl Center. The top two seeds will meet in the title match for the second consecutive year. Last season, Southern defeated Alabama A&M four games to three in the final round to win the title. Sunday’s Championship Match will begin at 1 p.m. and will be taped by ESPNU for airing on Wednesday, March 4 at 4:30 p.m. (CT). The #1 seeded Jaguars, who earned a first-round bye Saturday, won their two matches over #3 Texas Southern (4-2) and #5 Jackson State (4-1) to advance to Sunday’s Championship Match. Alabama A&M, the #2 seed, also had a first-round bye but advanced to the finals the hard way. After losing its opener to Jackson State (4-2), the Bulldogs advanced through the loser’s bracket with wins over #3 Texas Southern, #4 Grambling State and #5 Jackson State, all by identical 4-1 margins, to advance to the finals.
