JACKSON, MS – (courtesy JSU Sports Information) - The Jackson State women’s basketball team secured its first two signees during the 2009 National Letter of Intent regular period.
Bridgette James from Hightower High (Missouri City, TX) and Tiffany Kellum (Peoria, IL) have signed on to play for the Lady Tigers.
At Hightower, the 5’11” guard/forward averaged 10 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and two steals as a senior. During the 2006-07 season James was named Hightower’s most improved player, In 2007-08 she received All-District second team honors and was named to the All-District first team during her senior year. James was named to the Sandra Meadows Duncanville Tournament and the Spring Branch Isd Tournament All-Tournament teams. As a senior she recorded a team high 12 double-doubles.
James was also selected to the greater Houston area Coaches Basketball Association All-Star team. She was a three time letter winner at Hightower, as well as a varsity team captain as a junior and senior.
Kellum, a 6'1" post player from Peoria Central High, was named Player of the Week (Peoria Journal Star), All-State honorable mention, 1st team All-Conference. She averaged 17.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game as a senior.
