SWAC FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (Games of Oct. 31)

OFFENSIVE - QB Arvell Nelson, Texas Southern; 6-5, 210; JR; Cleveland, OH

Nelson completed 19 of 33 passes for 193 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed 13 times for 73 yards and one rushing score in the Tigers' 51-21 win over Alcorn State.

Nelson threw scoring passes of 15, 23 and 10 yards and had a 32-yard scoring run in the victory.

DEFENSIVE - LB Andre Coleman, Southern 6-1, 235; JR; Baton Rouge, LA

Coleman had a team high 10 tackles (2 solo, 8 assists) to go along with one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in Southern's 24-10 win over Univ. Ark-Pine Bluff.

Coleman forced a UAPB fumble in the Golden Lions' red zone and recovered the ball at the SU 10-yard line to preserve Southern's lead late in the first half.

NEWCOMER - RB Martin Gilbert, Texas Southern; 5-10, 205; JR; Dallas, TX

Gilbert rushed 27 times for 167 yards and one touchdown and caught three passes for 26 yards in the Tigers' win over Alcorn State.

Gilbert, who averaged 6.2 yards per carry, scored on a one-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

SPECIALIST - K Ari Johnson, Grambling State; 5-11, 160; FR; Mira Looma, CA

Johnson made all five PATs and converted three of four field goal attempts in the Tigers' 50-7 win over Mississippi Valley State.

Johnson made his first three field goal attempts of the game in addition to all five PATs in scoring 14 points in GSU's win.

OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

QB Deaunte Mason (Alabama A&M) Completed 21 of 32 passes for 273 yards with two touchdowns and one interception and rushed eight times for 49 yards vs. ALST

QB Greg Dillon (Grambling State) Completed 17 of 25 passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns and rushed 24 times for 96 yards and two rushing TDs vs. Mississippi Valley State

QB Bryant Lee (Southern) Completed 12 of 17 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns and also had a rushing touchdown in the Jaguars win over Univ. Arkansas-Pine Bluff

LB Adrian Hardy (Alabama State) Led all players with 12 tackles including 8 solo stops including one tackle for loss vs. Alabama A&M

SS Kejuan Riley (Alabama State) Finished with five tackles including three solo tackles vs. Alabama A&M

LB Lennon Coleman (Southern) Finishing with six tackles and one forced fumble vs. UAPB.

WR Nick Andrews (Alabama State) Finished the game with 135 all-purpose yards (76 KOR, 7 PR, 52 rec) vs. Alabama A&M

K Robert Hersh (Texas Southern) Made all seven PATs vs. Alcorn State
