HOUSTON, TX (AP) - Quarterback Arvell Nelson threw for three touchdowns and ran for one more Saturday in Texas Southern's 51-21 victory over Alcorn State.

The game was tied at 21 going into the last quarter, but Nelson's scoring run of 32 yards and TD throws of 23 yards to Joseph Anderson and 10 yards to Brian Haith helped Texas Southern (3-4, 2-1 Southwestern Athletic) score 30 unanswered points. Nelson went 19-for-33 for 193 yards overall.

Alcorn quarterback Tim Buckley threw for 186 yards and TD passes of 8 and 17 yards to Ryan Singleton. He also had four interceptions. Running back Arnold Walker had a 4-yard TD run for the only other Alcorn score.

The Braves (2-5, 2-3) fell out of a first-place tie with Jackson State in the SWAC East. Alabama A&M, which beat Alabama State on Saturday, pulled into a first-place tie with JSU
