Houston, TX-(courtesy TSU Sports Information) Texas Southern defensive tackle coach Tremaine Jackson and linebacker coach Archie McDaniel will spend part of their summer working with the Houston Texans.
Jackson and McDaniel were chosen to participate in the Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship Program. Walsh introduced the concept in 1987 when he brought a group of coaches to 49ers training camp in Rocklin. The program was adopted by the NFL and since then, it has brought more than 1,300 minority coaches into NFL training camps.
Jackson and McDaniel will work hands-on with the professional players under the leadership of Texans’ assistant head coach and defensive line coach Bill Kollar and Texans’ linebacker coach Johnny Holland during the Texans training camp.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for me. I believe the experience will make be a better coach and prepare me for working as an NFL coach in the future,” said Jackson.
“I am honored to participate in a program where I will work with some of the best pro athletes and coaches in the world,” said McDaniel. “Working with the Texans will give me first hand experience at the highest level of coaching, and I’m really excited about the opportunity.”
Jackson and McDaniel’s fellowship with the Texans begins July 31st.
