The honors keep piling up for Prairie View A&M junior quarterback K.J. Black as he was recently named the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision's statistical champion for passing efficiency.
Black completed 70 percent of his passes during the 2009 season and finished with a pass efficiency rating of 172.77 en route to being named the SWAC's Offensive Player of the Year. The Louisville, Ky. native also passed for 2,033 yards and threw 22 touchdowns as the Panthers captured their first SWAC Championship since 1964.
Prairie View A&M University will officially celebrate the team's championship on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. in Blackshear Stadium.
Beginning at 12:30 p.m., the University marching band and cheerleaders will escort players and coaching staff through campus to Blackshear Stadium where the "official" championship ceremony will take place beginning at 1 p.m.
A festive parade will commence at the corner of L.W. Minor St. and University Dr., travel in front of the William "Billy" J. Nicks, Sr. Fieldhouse on O.J. Thomas St. and end at the Panthers home field - Blackshear Stadium. Fans are encouraged to line the parade route and follow the entourage to the ceremony.
The 2009 SWAC champions are expected to receive keys to the city from Prairie View Mayor Frank Jackson and hear congratulatory remarks from members of PVAMU's 1964 championship team. Following the event, players and coaches will be on hand to sign autographs and take photos.
