Bama State races past Talladega in exhibition opener, 98-83
Final stats
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Alabama State University men's basketball team placed five players in double digits en route to a 98-83 exhibition victory over Talladega College Monday night at the ASU Acadome.
Tramayne Moorer finished with a team-high 20 points for the Hornets followed by newcomer Sekani Milligen with 19. Talladega's Phil Wood led all players with 28 points including a 6-for-9 performance from behind the three-point line.
"Overall, I thought we played hard and with a high level of intensity," said ASU head coach Lewis Jackson. "I was a little disappointed that we gave up so many points especially at the end by sending them to the free throw line. Our energy was good and we are still trying to find out about our team. We got a win and that's what counts the most. We just need to continue working to get better every day."
The two teams combined for 56 free throw attempts including 34 in the second half. ASU's pressure defense forced 20 Talladega turnovers that resulted in 25 points. The Hornets also enjoyed a 48-22 advantage in points in the paint.
ASU senior Menji Mundadi scored 15 points on the night with newcomers Christopher Duncan and Robert Sanders chipping in 14 and 12, respectively. Jeffery Middlebrooks keyed the Hornets uptempo offense finishing with seven assists.
