Nearly 75 area kids participated in the Southwestern Athletic Conference's first Youth Champions Clinic on Monday at the Lakeshore Foundation recreation and education center.
Participants received instruction in basketball and track and field from several SWAC coaches including Alabama A&M's Altherias Warmly, Grambling State's Donnita Drain, and Mississippi Valley's Nate Kilbert and Alyse Wells-Kilbert. Alabama State assistant track and field coaches LaShaunda Jones and Michael Snapp were also in attendance.
Special guest included Olympian Koby Miller, who was a silver medalist in the 4x100 meter event at the 2004 Sydney Olympics and Jen Armbruster, who has won several medals at the Paralympic Games.
This is the second of two clinics hosted by the SWAC this summer. Last week more than 300 local area youth participated in the 6th annual SWAC Youth Football Clinic at Legion Field in Birmingham, AL.
