Prairie View 56, Alabama State 55

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Darnell Hugee hit a jumper with 4 seconds left, propelling Prairie View A&M to a 56-55 win over Alabama State on Monday night.

After Prairie View A&M called a timeout with 11 seconds left, Michael Griffin took the ball for the Panthers' final possession and missed his jumper. But the Panthers (11-9, 6-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference) reclaimed possession, and the team's leading scorer on the night hit the final shot. Hugee finished with 19 points.

Tramaine Butler led the Hornets (9-11, 6-3) with 15 points, and scored the go-ahead basket for Alabama State on a layup with 29 seconds left for a 55-54 lead before Hugee won it for the Panthers. Menji Mundadi also had 15 points for the Hornets.

The Panthers finished 15-for-17 from the foul line (88.2 percent) compared to just a 7-for-12 performance for the Hornets (58.3 percent).

Texas Southern 67, Alabama A&M

NORMAL, Ala. (AP) -- Deandre Hall posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, and Texas Southern beat Alabama A&M 67-62 on Monday night.

The Tigers went 10-for-10 from the foul line in the final two minutes to preserve the win. Leading 61-60 with 31 seconds to play, Junior Treasure and Aaron Clayborn each made two free throws to push the lead to 65-60 with 7 seconds remaining.

After a quick basket by the Bulldogs' Cornelius Hester made it 65-62, Treasure added two more foul shots to provide the final margin.

Travele Jones added 13 points and Clayborn had 12 for the Tigers (11-10, 7-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference).

The Tigers have won five of their past six games, all of which have been decided by seven points or less. The Bulldogs (7-10, 4-5) had a four-game winning streak snapped.

Casey Cantey scored 19 points, Hester added 18 and Maurice Kemp 11 for the Bulldogs. Jackson State 72, UAPB 67

PINE BLUFF, Ark. -- Garrison Johnson and Phillip Williams each scored 17 points and Jackson State survived a late charge to defeat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 72-67 Monday night.

De'Suan Dixon added 13 points for the Tigers (10-11, 8-1 Southwestern Athletic), who nearly blew an 11-point lead in the final minute but held on to maintain their grip on first place in the conference.

Gavin Montgomery led the Golden Lions (6-14, 6-3) with 16 points, and Terrance Calvin had 15.

Up 67-56 with 1:08 to play after two free throws by Johnson, Jackson State saw its lead shrink to 70-67 with 5 seconds remaining following a layup by Calvin. Johnson then iced the win with two more free throws.

The Tigers never trailed in winning their fourth straight. They led by as many as 19 and were up 47-28 with 12:23 to play. Mississippi Valley State 93, Grambling State 83

ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) -- Julius Cheeks scored 18 points to lead Mississippi Valley State to a 93-83 win over Grambling State on Monday night.

Darian Donald added 14 points for the Delta Devils (5-17, 4-5 Southwestern Athletic Conference), who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Grambling State (4-13, 2-7) was led by Donald Qualls, who scored 28 points on 8 of 24 shooting. Lance Fuertado added 23 points for the Tigers.

Mississippi Valley State shot 59.6 percent from the field (31-for-52) and 52.9 percent from 3-point range (9-for-17).

The Delta Devils outrebounded Grambling State 36-33, and their bench outscored the Tigers' 25-5. Grambling State shot 43.3 percent from the field (29-for-67) and shot 33.3 percent from beyond the arc (7-for-21).

The Delta Devils outscored the Tigers 54-40 in the second half.
