Alabama State 77, Southern 60
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- Menji Mundadi scored a career-high 29 points to lead Alabama State in a 77-60 victory over Southern University on Monday night.
Mundadi shot 7-for-14 from 3-point range for the Hornets (8-10, 5-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference), who have now won four games in a row. Tramayne Moorer added 22 points.
Alabama State ended the first half with a 14-2 run to take a 42-23 halftime lead. The Hornets maintained their lead, and would lead by as many as 26 points, after a 3-pointer from Mendadi made the score 57-31 with 14:52 remaining.
The Jaguars (3-17, 1-7) were led by Julius Ingram and Doug Scott, who scored 18 points each. Southern has now lost five straight games.
Alabama State shot 47.6 percent from 3-point range (10-for-21), while the Jaguars were only 27.3 percent from beyond the arc (3-for-11).
Texas Southern 70, UAPB 67
HOUSTON -- Deandre Hall scored 21 points and Travele Jones added 18 as Texas Southern got past Arkansas-Pine Bluff 70-67 Monday night.
Junior Treasure had 11 points for the Tigers (10-9), who at 6-1 are in sole possession of first place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, half a game ahead of Jackson State.
Tavaris Washington finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Golden Lions (5-13, 5-2) while Terrance Calvin scored a team-high 17 points. Pine Bluff lost for the first time in four games.
Texas Southern outshot Pine Bluff 47.2 percent-32.3 percent, but the Lions kept the game close by outrebounding the Tigers 50-32 and hitting 25-of-39 free throws. Texas Southern was 17 of 30 from the line.
Prairie View 69, Miss Valley State 63
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -- Darnell Hugee scored 25 points, including eight of his team's 12 in overtime, as Prairie View edged Mississippi Valley State 69-63 Monday night.
Hugee scored the first four points of the extra period and the Panthers (10-8, 5-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) led the rest of the way. Duwan Kornegay added 16 points and Dorian McDaniel had 11.
Julius Cheeks led the Delta Devils (4-16, 3-4) with 21 points, and his layup with 23 seconds remaining in regulation capped an 8-0 run that tied the score at 57. The game went into overtime after Michael Griffin missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer for Prairie View.
Darian Donald's 3 pointer pulled the Devils to within 65-63 with 1:31 to play before Griffin ended the game with four straight free throws.
Donald finished with 14 points MVSU, which never led.
Alabama A&M 84, Alcorn State 70
LORMAN, Miss. (AP) -- Casey Cantey scored 20 points, leading four Alabama A&M players in double figures, as the Bulldogs beat Alcorn State 84-70 on Monday night.
Bo Amusa added 15 points, Cornelius Hester had 12 and Marcus Lee 11 for the Bulldogs (6-9, 3-4 Southwestern Athletic Conference), who have won back to back games for the first time since November.
Alcorn State led 10-7 less than 5 minutes into the contest, but Evan Hilton score five of his eight points and Lee knocked down a 3-pointer during an 18-3 run for the Bulldogs. They never trailed again, leading by 12 at the break and outscoring the Braves 42-40 in the second half to seal it.
The Bulldogs scored 40 points off of 26 Alcorn State turnovers, and outscored the Braves 38-30 in the paint.
Jamarcus Holt, Shaunvanta Ingram and Ian Francis scored 15 points apiece to lead Alcorn State (0-20, 0-7).
