Leon Johnson Invitational (Northwestern State University)
Grambling State

NATCHITOCHES, La. - Hassan Chepkwony highlighted the day for the Grambling State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams by winning the 5000m at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational, hosted by Northwestern State, on Saturday.

Chepkwony finished with a time of 15:41.46, followed by Aaron Koech at 16:16.64, who took second, while Noah Rugut (16:29.54) claimed third.

In the same race on the women's side, Halima Chepkwony placed second, with a time of 19:01.84, as teammates Naomi Kiprop, Priscilla Kibet and Abigael Jebet finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Kiprop crossed the line at 20:06.14, while Kibet recorded a time of 21:05.25. Jebet completed the run at 24:33.37.

Furqani Al-Amin finished just outside of the top five, coming in seventh in the hammer throw, with a toss of 45.45m.

On the men's side, Wesley Love captured a second-place finish in the 800m, with a time of 1:58.58, while Lachavius Grimes placed fourth in the 200m, at 21.67.

In the field events, Mickey Anderson added a seventh-place finish in the shot put, with a toss of 12.25m.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Mississippi Valley's Laval Davis won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.36 seconds during the Memphis Tigers Invitational this past weekend. 

Davis also earned third place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.52 seconds.

Arkanasas-Pine Bluff Laural Heath finished second in the 800-meter run (1:52.66), and teammate Rasheed McAlpin (52.67) was second in the 400-meter hurdles. In field events, UAPB's Travis Bibbs (14.70m) and Shevon Pipps (14.10m) finished third and fifth, respectively, in the triple jump. Miles Dortch took fourth in the javelin for UAPB with a throw of 50.75m.

On the women's side, MVSU's Ajani Williams finished fourth in the 400-meter dash (56.46). Teammate Iyanna Alexander also had a fourth-place result, hers coming in the 800-meter dash (2:16.58). UAPB's Briana Burke took second in the long jump (5.94m). Jahelle Cato of Jackson State took 10th in the 100-meter hurdles (14.65).

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Justin Thomas of Jackson State won the 100-meter dash at the Southern Miss Open with a time of 10.33 seconds this past weekend.

Alcorn State's Bralon Robinson was second (10.37). JSU's Raheem Skinner (1:54.31) and William Carroll (1:54.77) finished 1-2 in the 800-meter run. Christian Jones finished second in the 110m hurdles for the Tigers (14.52), and teammate Joshua Hilliard (14.55) was third.

Jackson State's Azariah Foster won the 400m hurdles (53.05). The Tigers' 4x100 relay team (40.35) also won during competition.

In field events, Jauvany Hyde (14.60m) and Ryan Theyard (14.30m) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the triple jump.
