Southern Miss Invitational (University of Southern Mississippi; March 30)
Mississippi Valley State

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Mississippi Valley State's Laval Davis clocked a 21.56-second time en route to a third-place result in the men's 200m dash at the Southern Miss Invitational this past weekend. 

Teammate Garrion Gamble finished seventh with a time of 22.01 seconds. Davis also finished third in the 400m dash, finishing with a time of 48.65.

Timothy Misoy won the men's 5000m run, clocking in at 16:27.58. In field events, Marcus Roberts was second in the high jump (1.98m).

On the women's side, Najee Green (24.44) finished third in the 200m, winning her individual heat. She was also fifth in the 400m (55.48), winning her individual heat in the event as well. Iyanna Alexander (2:20.73) took fifth in the 800m run.

Scolasticah Kemei took third in the 1500m run with a 4:47.2 time. Kemei also won the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:49.63, an event where the Devilettes took the top four spots.

Florida Relays (University of Florida; March 29-31)

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - During the Pepsi Florida Relays, as hosted by top-ranked Florida, Alabama State’s Caesar Kemp finished second in the shot put with a distance of 16.85 meters (55-03.50). He finished just behind Hiram Morales of McNeese State at 17.70 meters (58-01.00).

On the women’s side, Charminique Hackney finished 12th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.75 seconds. While teammate, Arion Span finished 29th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.48. Shamaria Lovett finished eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.32, setting a new personal best – old mark was 1:01.58.

Bridgette Williams finished 18th in the javelin with a throw of 36.28 meters (119-00.00), and the 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Desiree Horn, Charminiqu Hackney, Zaria Whittaker and Kyana Evans, finished 15th with a time of 45.66 seconds.

Also on the men’s side, Josh Davis finished 10th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.46 seconds, finishing just 0.001 seconds behind Florida’s Hakim Sani-Brown. Teammate Norris Spike finished 32nd overall with a time of 10.70 seconds.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Terrance Adams finished 26th with a final time of 14.39 seconds.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Camrin Lamb, Norris Spike, Josh Davis and Andrew Jackson finished in 23rd with a time of 3:16.37, to place them in the top ten in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). Lezoghia Member- Meneh finished 18th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.10 seconds, placing him in the the top five of the conference early in the season.

Bobcat Invitational (Texas State University; March 29-31)

SAN MARCOS, Texas - Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Grambling State, Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M competed at the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State this past weekend, with each school picking up a handful of top-10 finishes.

Prairie View’s Kaizha Roberts placed eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.08mw and a career best mark. JayRielle Joseph ran a personal best in the 200m placing 16th with a time of 24.49.

On the men’s side, the Panthers’ 4x100 team placed second overall running 41.14, the quad consisted of William Polley, Ty’ron Baker, Ansar Richardson and Carl Jordan.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s 4x400 relay team – Rasheed McAlpin, Malique Smith, Tyran Lyons and Harlan Clarke – finished third (3:14.14), while PVAMU’s 4x400 relay team which consisted of Yaw Sekyere, Terrell Moses, Darwin Allen and Sydney Holt-Washington placed fifth overall after running a time of 3:16.46. McAlpin was fourth in the 400m hurdles (53.28).

Prairie View’s stint in the meet – the Panthers also competed at the Texas Relays -- was rounded out with the 4x400 and the team of Rogers, senior Takara Coleman, sophomore Sydnee Mitchell-Jemison, and senior Deonca Bookman ran a season best of 3:42.  

For TSU, Alexis Gray continued to impress in the women’s 200 meter dash as she finished in 2nd place. Nikole Haroon finished in the top 20 of the event with an 18th place finish in the finals.

Haroon also finished 3rd in the 400 meter dash. In the women’s 100 meter hurdles Zaidra James and Rakyala Robertson finished 12th and 16th respectively.  James also finished 7th in the 400 meter hurdles with teammates Alayshia Jones, Jessilyn Nicholas, and Morgan Utsey-Williams finishing 13th, 15th, and 19th respectively.

TSU’s 4x100 meter relay team consisting of Kiya Reeves, Alexis Gray, DaShavonta Kinney and Kaidra James finished 3rd behind only New Mexico State and Murray State.

Quintella Johnson finished 5th in the women’s high jump and Rakayla Robertson finished 19th in the women’s triple jump.

Christelle Nintcheu was the highlight for the Lady Tigers field performers as she garnered a top 10 finish in the women’s shot put finishing in 9th place.

Grambling’s Hassan Chepkwony claimed eighth in the men’s 1500m at 4:05.42, while Wesley Love registered a 20th-place finish in the 400m, coming in at 50.23.

The Lady Tigers’ Sherrell Bradford placed 18th in the 400m hurdles, with a time of 1:05.92. In field events, Furqani al-Amin took 12th in the hammer throw at 45.04m and 17th in the shot put, with a toss of 11.81m. Also, in the shot put, Darnese Wood finished 16th, with a throw of 12.05m.

Also for UAPB, Shevon Pipps (1.95m) was seventh in the high jump. On the women’s side, the Lady Lions’ 4x400 relay team – Tiler Tyler, Camiya Knight, Jennifer Watt and Je-Risa James – claimed third with a time of 3:50.21, which was good enough to win its section. Keziann Jones was fifth in the women’s shot put (13.65m).

AUSTIN, Texas - During the 91st annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, Prairie View A&M’s Nekiesha Bailey finished fifth in the high jump with a mark of 5’8.75 (1.75m), while the 4x800 team of Dinah Murphy, Husniyyah Rogers, Noella Rodriguez and Alysse Grogan placed eighth overall with a time of 9:16.22.

Texas Southern’s 4x400 relay team -- Darius Birden, Bronshaye Bolden, Mykele Young Sanders, Kenneth White – posted a 3:11.85 time to finish third in its meet. Jackson State's Justin Thomas was 10th in the 100m dash (10.32), and TSU's Roman Turner finished the 100m in 10.47 seconds, both times good enough for each respective sprinter to win his heat.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Jackson State each placed in the top 8 of the 4x800m relay event, as UAPB was sixth (7:52.12), and JSU was eighth (8:26.58).

Additionally on the women's side, PVAMU's Deonca Bookman finished second in the 400m hurdles (56.78) and won her heat of the 100m hurdles (13.92). PVAMU's 4x800m relay team finished eighth (9:16.22).
