Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week: March 20

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Jackson State hurdler Azariah Foster, Texas Southern sprinter Alexis Gray, Prairie View jumper Nekiesha Bailey, and Alabama State thrower Caesar Kemp have been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference's Track and Field athletes of the week following their performances this past weekend.

Men's Track Athlete of the Week - Azariah Foster, Jackson State
Jr. | Hurdles | 6-3 | Covington, Ga.

Foster was a dual winner for Jackson State during the 67th Annual Texas Southern University Relays this past weekend. The junior claimed first place in the 110m hurdles (14.43) and the 400m hurdles (52.00). Additionally, his time in the 400m hurdles is No. 1 among all SWAC athletes and No. 6 overall in the national performance list ranks.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week - Alexis Gray, Texas Southern
Jr. | Sprints/Relays | Nassau, Bahamas

In a dominant and very busy weekend during the 67th Annual Texas Southern Relays, Gray won the women's 100m (12.12) and the 200m (24.34) dash events. Additionally, she was a part of three relay teams, each of them picking up a result of second place or better. Gray helped TSU's 4x100m (46.21) and 4x200m (1:36.89) finish second in competition and was part of the Lady Tigers' 4x400m team that won its meet with a time of 3:58.00. Individually, Gray ranks No. 3 in the 100m and 200m performance lists among SWAC athletes.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week - Caesar Kemp, Alabama State

Kemp set new personal-bests -- and new top mark among conference athletes -- in the shot put and discus events during competition at Central Florida's Black and Gold Challenge. The freshman earned fifth place in the shot put with a toss of 17.01m (55-09.75 feet), and also finished seventh in the discus throw with a distance of 46.17m (151-06 feet). He also set a new personal best in the hammer throw with a distance of 36.19m (118-09 feet).

Women's Field Athlete of the Week - Nekiesha Bailey, Prairie View A&M
So. | High Jump | 5-6 | Kansas City, Mo.

Bailey won the women's high jump event during the University of Houston's Cougar Spring Break Invitational, setting a new college-best mark of 5-10.75 feet. In the process, she took over the top spot in the country in the discipline. Bailey, the defending indoor and outdoor champion in the discipline, has won the high jump event in three straight meets and in five of the Lady Panthers' last six team competitions.
