Track and Field Athletes of the Week: March 13
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alcorn State sprinters Kemar Cumberbatch and DeKari Courtney, Alabama A&M thrower Alexis Lucas and Texas Southern high jumper Harvey Kendall have been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference's Track and Field athletes of the week following their performances this past weekend.
Men's Track Athlete of the Week - Kemar Cumberbatch, Alcorn State

During the McNeese State Cowboy Relays, Cumberbatch turned in a personal-record time of 10.51 in the men’s 100-meter dash, placing fourth overall to lead the Braves in the event. The sophomore was also a member of the 4x100-meter relay team that came in third with a combined time of 40.79. His efforts helped earn 12 of Alcorn’s 40 points in the team standings.
Women's Track Athlete of the Week - DeKari Courtney, Alcorn State

Courtney took fifth overall in the women’s 100-meter hurdles after running a personal-best 14.49 during the McNeese State Cowboy Relays. She also finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.78 and ran the third leg of the 4x400-meter relay team that won the event with a combined 3:48.52. Her efforts helped secure 19 of the Lady’s Braves 63.5 points on the day.
Men's Field Athlete of the Week - Harvey Kendall, Texas Southern

Kendall set a personal-best -- and new top mark among conference athletes -- on his way to winning the high jump during the McNeese State Cowboy Relays. The junior cleared 2.10 meters (6-10.75 feet) on his first attempt, beating out athletes from McNeese State, ULM and Louisiana-Lafayette. Prior to the event, Kendall's previous college-best mark was 6-09.00 feet.
Women's Field Athlete of the Week - Alexis Luca, Alabama A&M

In what was a banner weekend for the sophomore, Lucas picked up three top-3 finishes during the Birmingham-Southern Invitational, setting new top marks in each event on SWAC performance lists thus far this season in three different events. Lucas won the shotput with a throw of 13.04 meters (42-09.50 feet), and also picked up a second-place finish during the discus throw with a heave of 41.46 meters (136-00 feet). During the hammer throw, Lucas claimed third place with a mark of 41.19 meters (135-02.00 feet) on her final attempt of competition. Each of her results are the best by any SWAC women's athlete this season in the respective events, and her shot put result is a personal best.
