PVAMU's Bookman concludes season at NCAA Championships
EUGENE, Ore. – Prairie View A&M junior Deonca Bookman concluded the 2017 track season at NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 400m hurdles Thursday night at Hayward Field.
Bookman, a native of Allen, Texas, finished with a time of 59.25 (59.245) a third-best career mark. She finished ahead of seven other D-I hurdlers overall, Clemson (59.248), LSU (59.37), Baylor (100.80), Kennesaw State (100.97), Missouri (1.01.60), Wisconsin (DNF) and Maryland (DNF).
Bookman ran her best race of the season during the West regionals last month with a qualifying time of 57.84, placing her eighth in the region. She finished as the number one 400m hurdler during the SWAC Outdoor Championship with a time of 59.61.
Set to return for her senior year, Bookman's efforts at the national championships closes what was a standout year for the Lady Panthers' top hurdler. Bookman won five combined conference championships during the 2017 indoor and outdoor season, with the golds coming in the 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles and 60m hurdles as well as the 4x400m relay.
