Alabama State Claims Bowling Regular Season Title
D’IBERVILLE, Miss. – The 2018 Southwestern Athletic Conference bowling regular season title came down to the final round, in a match between Texas Southern and Alabama State, with the Lady Hornets taking the crown with a 910-903 win, to claim the regular season championship, and back up its 2017 SWAC tournament title with a regular season title in 2018.
The Lady Hornets and TSU both finished the regular season with a 18-6 record, and ALST was awarded the regular season title by virtue of a tiebreaker over the Lady Tigers.
Prairie View A&M finished the regular season third place, with a 17-7 overall record. Jackson State came in fourth place, finishing at 16-8 on the season. Southern finished in fifth place with a 11-13 record. Alabama A&M (2-22) and Grambling State (2-22) rounded out the regular season standings.
Lindsay Parades of Prairie View A&M finished the regular season with the highest average at 195.4 in 27 games.
Denisyha Waller of Texas Southern had the second best average at 193.3 in 24 games bowled. Alize Stevenson of Alabama State was third in the individual standings, with a 190.0 average in 27 games to round out the top three in the individual standings.
Stevenson was also the top freshman during the regular season Prairie View A&M’s Veronica Prior finished just behind, with a 187.6 average in 25 games bowled. Capri Howard from Jackson State had the third best average among freshman. Howard rounded out the top three in the Freshman Standings with a 185.3 average in 28 games bowled.
Alabama State will look to defend its SWAC championship when the top six teams in the SWAC standings will meet at the 2018 SWAC Bowling Championship, at the ITRC in Arlington, Texas from March 23-25.
