Women's Bowling Championship Preview
The 2017 Southwestern Athletic Conference Title will be on the line this weekend at the SWAC Bowling Championship, which will be held at the Bowling International Training and Research Center, in Arlington, Texas.
Regular season champion Prairie View A&M looks to carry the momentum that it gained from conference play. The Panthers went 20-4 in the East and West roundups, to take the regular season title. The Panthers will look to win its second SWAC title in three seasons, and will look to freshman of the year Kaitlyn Dickerson to continue the stellar stretch of play of late. Dickerson bowed a perfect game in the final day of the East roundup.
Texas Southern will also look to contend. Texas Southern finished conference play with an 18-6 record. TSU will look to the bowler of the year, Denisyha Waller, to lead them in the tournament. Waller was the only bowler to average over 200 in conference play this season, knocking down 206.9 pins per contest.
Defending SWAC champion Jackson State also looks to be a major player in the championship, and win back-to-back SWAC titles. JSU went 18-6 in conference play, to finish in second place due to having a higher total pin count than Texas Southern.
Alabama State, Southern and Grambling State will all look to be factors in deciding the title as well. The Hornets went 12-12 during conference play, while Southern and Grambling both finished with 8-16 records.
The championship will feature traditional play on Friday March 24, as that will determine seeding for the double elimination bracket format that will take place on Saturday, March 25. March 26 will feature the championship match.
