OXFORD, Ala. - The Alabama State University women's cross country team had three runners finish inside the top 25 Saturday morning at the Foothills Invite, hosted by Jacksonville State University.  

Arion Span had her best finish of the season, crossing the line fourth overall with a time of 18:38.80 in the 5k race. She finished just three seconds out of third (Kailey Schuyler / Lipscomb) and less than 11 seconds out of second place (Caitlyn Farrell / Kennesaw State).   Teammate Janice Lane finished in the top 20 with a time of 19:36.30, finishing just two seconds out of 19th (Haley Kling / Lipscomb) and five seconds behind Lindsey Shealy (Georgia State) and Madison Pelfrey (Morehead State).  

Sade Lavallias finished 24th overall to wrap up the runners who finished in the top 25 for the Lady Hornets. She crossed the line in a time of 19:47.60, finishing less than second behind Reagan Poteet of Kennesaw State.  

The three, along with their teammates, helped the Lady Hornets to a sixth place finish overall in the race with 129 points, finishing just behind Georgia Tech in fifth. The Lady Hornets finished ahead of in-state foes Troy, Jacksonville State and Alabama A&M among others.  

Alabama A&M also competed in the women’s event.  The Lady Bulldogs finished the event in ninth place with a time of 1:48.04.  The highest placing Lady Bulldog runner was Sabrina Wooten, who places 105th with a time of 6:45.1

 Meanwhile, on the men's side, Joshua Coffelt finished 29th overall for Alabama State in a time of 27:35.30 in the 8k race. He finished just one second behind 28th (Mitch Zabka / Lipscomb) and five seconds out of 27th (Robert Lockwood / Lipscomb).   Teammate Gregory Thigpen finished 34th overall in a time of 28:37.90, while Andrew Jackson finished with a time of 29:07.70.  The Hornets finished sixth overall in the race.

LAKE CHARLES, La. – Four Southwestern Athletic Conference schools competed in the McNeese State Stampede Invite this past weekend. 

In the men’s 4k event, Grambling State had the highest team finish, coming in fourth place, with a time of 1:47.16.  Alcorn State finished the team portion of the event in eighth place with a team time of 2:13.18.

Hassan Chepkwony of Grambling State had the best finish among any SWAC runner in the event, placing eighth with a time of 20:18.4.

Tyreq Miles was the highest Brave finisher in the men’s event placing 52nd with a time of 23:25.8.

In the women’s 5k, Grambling State was the highest SWAC finisher, coming in sixth place with a team time of 1:46.58.  Southern, Alcorn State, and Texas Southern finished the women’s 5k in eigth, ninth and tenth place respectively,

 Halima Chepkwony of Grambling State was the highest placing SWAC finisher for the women, placing 18th. 

The highest placing Lady brave was Angelica Jacobs who placed 28th. 

Danae Colston had the best finish for Southern, placing 37th, and Kristie Shy was the highest finishing runner for Texas Southern, coming in 64th place,
