Mississippi College Season Opener

Men’s Results Women’s Results

CLINTON, Miss. – Jackson State and Alcorn State opened its 2017 cross country seasons at the Mississippi College Season Opener over the weekend.  One the men’s side Henry Kiplagat of Jackson State won the men’s 5k race on Friday. 

Kiplagat finished with time of 16:15.92, which was a 5:14 average mile pace. Teammate Vincent Iangat finished the event in second place, with a time of 16:18.14 and a average mile of 5:14.0 to give JSU the top two finishers.

Alcorn State’s highest finisher was Jabari Thompson, who finished with a time of 20:39.54 and a 6:39.0 mile pace.

Jackson State finished the event in fourth place as a team while Alcorn State came in at 11th place.

For the women, Taylor Hayes of Jackson State was the highest finished among SWAC schools in the event.  Hayes posted a time of 17:21.69.

RaShaundra Ridle was the next highest Lady Tiger in the event, coming in 72nd place. 

Angelica Jacobs of Alcorn State was the highest-placing Lady Brave with a time of 17:55.89 and a 7:12.9 mile pace.

Alcorn State finished the women’s event in ninth place and Jackson State finished the women’s event in tenth place.

OXFORD, Ala. – Alabama State and Alabama A&M opened its 2017 cross country campaigns by competing in the JSU Struts Season Opener this weekend.

For the women, Alabama State had two runners finish inside the top-30. Arion Span finished in 16th place with a time of 15:21.00 and a 6:10.6 mile pace, for the highest finish by a SWAC runner in the event. Janice Lane finished in 30th place, with a time of 16:02.20. 

The highest placing Lady Bulldog was Sabrina Wooden, who finished in 48th place. Wooden had a time of 17:25.60.

For the men, Joshua Coffelt was the highest finishing Hornet in the event.  Coffelt came in with a time of 17:14.20

Alabama State finished the women’s event in sixth place as a team, while AAMU finished the women’s event in ninth place.  Coffelt was the only SWAC runner in the men’s event to crack the top-50. 

Alabama State finished the men’s event in seventh place.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Mississippi valley State got its 2017 cross country campaign started by competing in the Brooks Memphis Twilight this weekend.

For the women, Scolasticah Kemel finished the event in 29th place, the highest placing Devilette in the race.  Scolasticah finished with a time of 19:10.92.

For the men, the highest placing Delta Devil was Jaleel Turner.  Turner finished the race with a time of 23:26.84.

The women finished the team portion of the competition in 11th place, and the men finished in 16th place.


UNO Cross Country Invitational

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Southern took part in the UNO Cross Country Invitational over the weekend to begin its 2017 season. 

Danne Colston had the highest finish of any Jaguar for the men.  Colston finished in 23rd place, and had a time of 22:31 for a 7:14 mile pace.

For the women, Tessa Toney was the highest placing Jaguar.  Toney finished the event in 33rd place and recorded a time of 25:41 for a 8:15 minute mile pace.

Southern finished both the men’s and women’s team portion of the competition in sixth place.
