BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mississippi Valley State's Najee Green (24.88) won the Women's 200m dash during the Samford Indoor Open this past weekend at the Birmingham Crossplex.

Also for the Devilettes, Alice Kimutai took second in the women's 1000m run with a time of 3:11.93. Kimutai also aided the Devilettes' distance medley relay unit to victory (12:34.91). MVSU's women's 4x400m relay team finished third (3:54.19), and Alabama A&M's quartet took fifth (3:56.39). 

Alabama A&M's Davina Young took fifth in the 60m hurdles (8.75), and teammate Daysha Ward was fifth in the women's high jump after clearing 1.60m. Danice Loney managed a fifth-place showing in the women's pole vault.

On the men's side, MVSU's Jaleel Turner (2:36.50) was sixth in the 1000m run. AAMU's 4x400m relay team took third with a time of 3:18.71. Akeem Samuels nabbed fifth in the weight throw after a toss of 15.53m (50-11.5 feet). Fellow Bulldog Jordan Simons was fourth in the triple jump (13.70m).

HOUSTON - Prairie View A&M's William Polley won the 200m dash, and Texas Southern's Mariah Stewart (57.37) won the women's 400m dash at the Howie Ryan Invitational hosted by the University of Houston.

Polley clocked in at 21.85, just besting Jackson State's JaDarrius Perryman (22.36; second) and PVAMU teammate Carl Jordan (22.74; third). Grambling's Altany Wilson captured sixth in 22.89 and Jaden Johnson finished ninth in 23.17. GSU's Wesley Love placed eighth in the 800m run at 2:00.08.

In women's action, PVAMU's Deonca Bookman finished in the top five in the 60 meter hurdles, after running a 8.62 and a third place finish. Nekiesha Bailey performed well for the Lady Panthers picking up a second place finish in the high jump, posting 1.73 meters.

In the women's 60m, Texas Southern's Alexis Gray was second with a time of 7.41, and PVAMU's Jakerria Hughes grabbed fourth place with a time of 7.64. Mia Robinson grabbed sixth place overall for the Lady Panthers in the 200 crossing the line with a time of 25.59, and TSU's Nikole Haroon was seventh (25.59).

Grambling's Takira Koonce completed the 200m dash in 26.07, while the 4x400m relay team of Daneisha Curry, Jeunice Maximè, Marrisa Stove and LaTina Jones finished fifth in 4:10.33.

On the men’s side, Prairie View's Henry Brown placed fourth in the high jump with a mark of 2.00m, besting Grambling's David Parker, who captured 10th in the high jump with a leap of 1.90m.  In the 400 meters, Brandon Kirby and Terrell Moses finished in second and eighth respectfully. Kirby finished with a time of 49.93 and Moses 50.5.

Jackson State's Justin Thomas was second in the 60m dash with a time of 6.75, and Perryman was sixth in the 400m (50.22). JSU's Christian Jones (8.04) and Joshua Hilliard (8.07) were third and fourth, respectively, in the 60m hurdles.

Prairie View distance runner Aaron Austin had a good meet and an indoor seasonal best in the 800 running 1:56.69.

Gorilla Classic (Pittsburg State)

PITTSBURG, Kan. - Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Wade Garner (1:50.86) won the 800m run, and Malique Smith took second place in the men's 400m (48.48) during the third-annual Indoor Gorilla Classic at Pittsburg State University.

UAPB's 4x400m relay team (3:11.82) finished fourth. Laural Heath (1:52.29) finished fourth in the 800m run.

On the women's side, Camiya Knight finished eighth in the 400m dash (57.61), and teammate Je-Risa Jones was 10th (59.53). UAPB's women's 4x400m relay team was ninth (3:54.52). In field events, Briana Burke (5.57m) took 10th in the long jump, and Keziann Jones was ninth in the shot put (12.96m).
