BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -  Alabama State sprinters Josh Davis and Charminique Hackney and jumper Desiree Horn, and Jackson State jumper Jauvany Hyde have been recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference as indoor track and field athletes of the week following their performances in competition from Jan. 26-28.

Men's Track Athlete of the Week - Josh Davis, Alabama State
Sprints | Jr. | Tallahassee, Fla.

Davis won for the second time in as many weeks, as he claimed victory in the men's 60m dash at Purdue's Fred Wilt Invitational. With the mark, the junior now holds the number one ranking in the event among conference athletes. Additionally, the Tallahassee, Fla. native was part of a Hornets 4x400m relay team that finished second in competition and moved up to the No. 2 ranking in the discipline among conference teams. Davis also picked up a sixth-place finish in the long jump (6.80m).

Women's Track Athlete of the Week - Charminique Hackney, Alabama State
Sprints | So. | San Diego, Calif.

With a time of 7.51 seconds, Hackney won the women's 60m dash at Purdue's Fred Wilt Invitational this past weekend. In doing so she set a personal best -- she ran a 7.56 time in the event on Jan. 12 -- shaving five hundreths of a second off of her career-best. Additionally, she was a part of the Lady Hornets' third-place 4x400m relay team at the event. Hackney ranks No. 2 among conference athletes in the women's 60m, just one-tenth of a second out of the top spot.

Hyde set a new top mark in the triple jump among conference leapers, clearing 15.04m (49-04.25 feet) to win the event at the KMS Invitational on Jan. 28. Thus far, Hyde is the only jumper in the SWAC that has cleared 15.00m or better during triple jump competition this season. Additionally, the junior collected a second place finish in the long jump with a 7.09m (23-03.25 feet) mark. That distance is No. 2 among SWAC athletes this season.
