Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week: Feb. 14

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -  Mississippi Valley State sprinter Najee Green, Arkansas-Pine Bluff runner Wade Garner, and Prairie View A&M jumpers Henry Brown and Nekiesha Bailey have been recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference as indoor track and field athletes of the week following their performances in competition from Feb. 9-10.

Men's Track Athlete of the Week - Wade Garner, Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Sprints/Mid-Distance | So. | St. Joseph, Barbados

Garner took home the victory at Pittsburg State's third-annual Indoor Gorilla Classic during the 800m run, clocking in at 1:50.68. Garner, the No. 1 ranked athlete in the SWAC when it comes to the 800m, was just six-tenths of a second off his personal best in the event, and it marks his fourth top-two result in individual events this season.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week - Najee Green, Mississippi Valley State
Sprints | Sr. | Memphis, Tenn.

Green raced to victory in the women's 200m dash, setting a time of 24.88 seconds to win it during the Samford Open this past weekend. Prior to that meet, the senior's best finish in the indoor version of the event was fourth place.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week - Henry Brown, Prairie View A&M
Jumps | Fr. | Sealy, Texas

Brown finished fourth in the high jump at the University of Houston's Howie Ryan Invitational. The freshman cleared 2.00m on the bar to earn the result. Brown, the No. 2 ranked athlete in the high jump among SWAC athletes, has posted three top-5 results in the high jump during meets this season.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week - Nekiesha Bailey, Prairie View A&M
Jumps | Jr. | Kansas City, Mo.

Bailey cleared 1.74m in the women's high jump during the Howie Ryan Invitational at Houston, finishing second in the event. The top-ranked high jumper in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, Bailey has finished no worse than second in each of her past three meets. She looks to defend her SWAC indoor high jump championship this weekend.
