Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week: Jan. 23
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama State sprinter Josh Davis, jumper Jamie Brown, thrower Bridgette Williams, and Alcorn State sprinter Shameka Grover have been recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference as indoor track and field athletes of the week following their performances in competition from Jan. 19-21.
Men's Track Athlete of the Week - Josh Davis, Alabama State

Davis raced to the top spot on the podium during the men's 200m dash at the Jan. 19 Samford Invitational, winning the event with a time of 21.50 seconds. With it, he tied his previous season-best mark -- which also stands as the No. 1 ranked time in the event among all SWAC sprinters.
Women's Track Athlete of the Week - Shameka Grover, Alcorn State

Grover set a meet record during the Samford Open on Jan. 20 en route to a win in the women's 200m dash, claiming first place with a time of 24.81 seconds. Her efforts aided the Lady Braves in winning the team standings of the meet.
Men's Field Athlete of the Week - Jamie Brown, Alabama State

Brown earned a victory in the triple jump competition during the Samford Invitational on Jan. 19. Brown cleared 14.47m (47-05.75 feet) to beat out athletes from Arkansas State and Samford, among others. Additionally, the junior collected a sixth-place result in the high jump, thanks to clearing a height of 1.95m (6-04.75 feet). This is the second weekly honor in a row for Brown.
Women's Field Athlete of the Week - Bridgette Williams, Alabama State

Williams collected two top-10 results at the Samford Invitational on Jan. 19. In the shot put event, she made a toss of 16.51m (54-02.00 feet) to finished third in competition. The mark -- which was set on her first throw of the event -- is the third-best among conference athletes thus far this season. Additionally, the Chicago, Ill. native picked up a 10th-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 11.82m (38-09.50 feet).
