Indoor Track and Field Recaps: Jan. 19-20
Samford January Invitational (Samford University; Jan. 19)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama State had several student-athletes finish in the top ten for multiple events in Birmingham Friday at the Samford Invitational, including medalist honors by Jamie Brown and Josh Davis.
On the women’s side, Bridgette Williams finished third in the weight throw with a distance of 16.51 meters (54-02.00). She is currently third in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) in the event.
Teammates Desiree Horn and Ariayanna Val finished fourth and sixth, respectively, in the long jump. Horn finished with a distance of 5.58 meters (18-03.75) and Val at 5.49 meters (18-00.25).
China Reed finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 11.46 meters (37-07.25), while Roderica White finished three spots behind with a distance of 10.82 meters. White is currently sixth in the SWAC in the triple jump.
On the track, Horn finished second with a time of 7.70 seconds in the 60-meter dash. In the 60-meter hurdles, Val finished third with a time of 8.97 and Christine Lavallias sixth 9.11 seconds.
Chyna-Joi Staton, finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.13 seconds, while Kleo Torres finished sixth in the 800-meters at 2:22.10. In the 200- meter dash, Charminique Hackney finished in the top spot with time of 24.93 seconds, while Kyana Evans finished seventh (25.91) and Emoni Hudson ninth (26.20).
The 4x400 relay team placed third with a time of 3:57.01.
On the men’s side, Terrance Jenkins finished third in the long jump with a distance of 6.84 meters (22-05.25), and is currently tied for fifth in the SWAC. Josh Davis finished sixth in the event with a distance of 6.80 meters (22-03.75), and Chaaka Trahan ninth with a distance of 6.66 meters (22-03.75).
Brown finished first in the triple jump for a distance of 14.47 meters (47-05.75), and he finished sixth in the high jump with a height of 1.95m (6-04.75). On the track, Terrance Adams finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.51 seconds. In the 400-meter run, Camrin Lamb finished second with a time of 49.56 seconds, and Kevin Spraggins fourth in 50.21 seconds.
Davis finished first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.50 seconds, which matches the top time in the conference. The 4x400 relay teams finished second with a time of 3:17.36 seconds, and seventh in a time of 3:29.00 seconds.

Jackson State (Men)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama A&M's DeTorrian Green won the men's 60-meter dash with a time of 6.82 seconds, and teammate Joi Ballard won the women's 200-meter dash (22.52) and 400-meter dash (58.19) during the Samford January Open Friday at the Birimingham Crossplex.
Green, who beat out Jackson State's Justin Thomas (6.84; 2nd) and Jailen Bell (6.84; 3rd) in the 60m, also finished fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 21.86 seconds. Also from Jackson State, Joshua Hilliard claimed third place in the 60m hurdles, finishing in 8.17 seconds.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff saw a trio of runners finish in the top seven of the results of the 800m, with Wade Garner coming in second at 1:53.95. Laural Heath was third (1:54.14) and Malique Smith (1:56.46) was seventh. The Golden Lions' 4x400m relay also claimed victory with a time of 3:17.88. In field events, Grambling's David Parker captured fourth in the high jump with a leap of 2.05m (6.0-8.75 inches).
Travis Bibbs won the triple jump for UAPB (14.54m), and Alabama A&M's DeAndre Baker was fifth (13.17m).
JSU's Jauvany Hyde cleared 7.00m (22-0.96 ft.) to win the long jump, Baker was fourth at 6.84m and Grambling's Rudolph Valentine placed seventh (22-0.44 ft.) at 6.72m (22-0.75 ft.).
Akeem Samules of Alabama A&M cleared 13.10m in the shot put for a fifth-place finish.
On the women's side, Alabama A&M's Joi Ballard was third in the 60m (7.71s). Grambling's Takira Koonce placed sixth in the 60m, with a time of 7.88. Koonce was also third in the 200m in 25.37. The Lady Bulldogs had two top-5 showings in the 1000m run with Sabrina Wooten (3:20.66) coming in fourth and Alexia Wilson (3:25.23) finishing fifth.
Also for Alabama A&M, Davina Young (8.85) was fourth in the 60m hurdles.
The 4x400m relay team of Marrisa Stove, Daneisha Curry, Breanna Wayne and Koonce finished ninth in 4:12.54.
In the women's field events, Alabama A&M's Samia Liverpool (1.60m) was fourth in the high jump. Grambling's Darnese Woods captured fifth in the shot put, with a toss of 13.16m (43-feet, 2.25 inches). UAPB's Briana Burke finished second in the long jump (5.43m). Grambling's Furqani al-Amin (17.13m) was fourth in the weight throw, and UAPB's Keziann Jones (16.18m) was sixth.

Red Raider Invitational (Texas Tech; January 19)

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Southern's men collected several top 10 results during competition at Texas Tech's Red Raider Invitational this past Friday.
Jacob Price finished second in the 800m run with a time of 1:56.22. Darius Birden ran a 48.27 in the 400m dash to earn fifth place. In the 3000m run, Jorge Martinez (9:03.31) earned fifth place, and David Guzman ran a 9:14.44 to finish ninth.
Maliek Kendall clocked in at 8.12 seconds in the 60m hurdles, finishing fifth. The Tigers' 4x400m relay team was sixth in competition with a time of 3:19.88.
In field events, Taylor Levine cleared 1.96m in the high jump, finishing sixth. Tevin Kimble was also sixth in the triple jump after a leap of 13.66m.
