Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week: Jan. 11

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Juwan Parker, Texas Southern's Terrell Perry and Alexis Gray and Alabama State's Charrie Dennard and by the Southwestern Athletic Conference as Track and Field Athletes of the Week for their outstanding performances in competition during Jan. 6-8.

Men’s Track Performer of the Week
Juwan Parker
Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Senior | Lake Village, Ark.

Parker posted three top-4 placings during the Lions' meet at Tennessee State's Ed Temple Classic. Parker finished second in the 200-meter dash at 22.53 seconds, and followed up with a fourth-place result in the 55-meter dash, during which he set a personal best at 6.55 seconds. He also helped the 4x400-meter relay squad earn third place with a time of 3:23.07.

Junior | Killeen, Texas

The 2017 Bill Easton Classic at the University of Kansas was one for the personal record books as Perry set new collegiate best marks for himself in the shot put and the weight throw events. He finished in sixth place in each event, as he made a 13.45m throw in the shot put and a 14.88m toss in the weight throw. Perry's weight throw distance is the best by a SWAC athlete thus far in the season.

Women’s Track Performer of the Week

Sophomore | Nassau, Bahamas

Gray posted the second-fastest time by a SWAC athlete in the women's 200-meter dash this season, claiming the top spot on the podium in the event at the LSU Purple Tiger Invitational with a time of 24.94 seconds. She also earned fifth place as part of TSU's 4x400-meter relay team (4:03.19).

Senior | Fort Myers, Fla.

Dennard took over the top rankings on the conference's performance lists in the triple jump and long jump thanks to two top-10 results at the Clemson Orange and Purple Indoor Invitational this past weekend. Her 12.35-meter leap in the triple jump earned her third place and put her No. 1 in the SWAC in the discipline. She followed that up with a 5.78m distance in the long jump for a sixth-place result. Both measurements are personal bests for the Fort Myers, Fla. native.
