HOUSTON, TX. – The Home Depot Retool Your School Campaign for the nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) is back for a ninth consecutive year with an aim to give back to HBCUs who have so generously given to the communities they are a part of: A strong foundation. Renewed purpose. Distinctive character. With support from The Home Depot, the grants awarded from the Retool Your School program gives schools an opportunity to make upgrades to their campuses.

Nine campus improvement grants are awarded each year. Schools are divided into clusters based on their student enrollment population and per cluster, there will be one (1) $50,000 grand prize grant, one (1) $40,000 second place grant and (1) $30,000 third place grant. All grants are awarded based on the consumer voting and project proposal scores, which are determined by a panel of judges.

Nomination period: HBCUs are nominated to participate in the program through online consumer nominations. After receiving 100 nominations, the schools are invited to enrolled into the program. Schools that are not nominated may still enter the program through school administrator opt-in. Nominations close on February 22.  Voting Period: HBCU supporters can vote for their favorite HBCUs through social media using the school’s designated hashtag or on the RYS website. Voting is unlimited. The top 3 HBCUs with the most votes in each cluster will be in consideration for a campus improvement grant.
