Women's Basketball Player of the Week: January 30
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mississippi Valley State point guard LaKendra Bassett has been recognized as the Southwestern Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her standout performances in contests played from Jan. 24-29.

Bassett averaged 24.0 points, 4.5 steals, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists on 53.5% field-goal shooting in two games for the Devilettes. The junior also connected on 55.5% of her three-point tries over that same span. Bassett tied a career-high with 32 points on an efficient 10-of-12 shooting - knocking down all four of her three-point attempts -- in leading MVSU to its first win of the season, a 72-61 upset victory over Jackson State on Jan. 27. Additionally, she snagged seven rebounds, made six steals and dished three assists.
The Fort Worth, Texas native followed that effort with a 15-point outing against Grambling State. In the Devilettes' 64-62 setback against the Lady Tigers, Bassett accounted for three steals, two rebounds and two assists as well.
Bassett currently averages 15.1 points per game, ranking seventh in the SWAC. She also pulls down a team-best 4.5 boards a night, and her 3.0 assists per game average is seventh-best in the league. Her 2.8 steals a night clip is the fifth-most in the conference. This is the second Player of the Week award for the Devilettes guard.
