NEWS AND NOTES:

• While Texas Southern's Joyce Kennerson continues to lead the country in scoring at 25.8 PPG, another SWAC athlete has cracked the top 25 national scoring leaders, as Prairie View A&M's Shala Dobbins ranks 21st with 20.8 PPG.

• Dobbins, who is the nation's leader at getting to and converting from the foul line, recently tied the 2017-18 NCAA top single-game mark for most free throws made in one game after going 21-of-27 versus Grambling on Jan. 13. Dobbins has made more free throws (140) than anyone in the nation, and has sank more shots from the charity stripe than 12 teams have as a whole (Iona, Dartmouth, Montana St., Monmouth, Penn, Oregon St., Maine, Winthrop, Lafayette, Loyola-Chicago, Robert Morris, Eastern Kentucky).

• Reigning SWAC Player of the Week Lauren McKee of Alabama A&M scored a career-high 27 points in a win over Alabama State. In the three games prior, she had scored a combined 25 points.

• Spreading the wealth: With 16 games played this season, Alabama State has had 10 different players lead the team in scoring for a given game in the 2017-18 year.

• In her last nine games, Southern's Briana Green is averaging 20.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.6 steals per game on 52.4 percent shooting.
