BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mississippi Valley State point guard LaKendra Bassett has been recognized as the Southwestern Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her standout performances in contests played from Dec. 12-18.

Bassett averaged 17.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game on 48.7 field goal percentage in three games for the Devilettes. She also knocked down 30.7 percent of her three-pointers. The junior scored at least 17 points in each game MVSU played this week. In the Devilettes' Dec. 12 setback versus Western Kentucky, Bassett put up 17 points on 7-14 shooting while grabbing six rebounds, dishing four assists and making two steals.
Against Nicholls on Dec. 15, the Fort Worth, Texas native delivered 19 points and eight rebounds. Bassett concluded her week with a 17-point, six-steal effort against Murray State last night, during which she delivered four assists.
Bassett currently averages 15.3 points per game, good for sixth-best in the SWAC. She also pulls down 5.1 boards a night, and her 4.1 assists per game average is third-best in the league. Her 3.1 steals a night clip is also ranked among the top 10 league leaders.
