Clemson 64, Prairie View A&M 58
CLEMSON, S.C. - A late rally fell just short for Prairie View A&M (2-6) during a 64-58 loss at Clemson Friday night in Littlejohn Coliseum.
Shala Dobbins led the Lady Panthers with 19 points and three steals. Kendra Hicks added 16 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Mariah Campbell pulled down a team-best 11 rebounds, and Dominique Newman scored eight points, grabbed six rebounds, dished five assists and made three steals.
Jaia Alexander led Clemson with 22 points, six rebounds and three steals. Kobi Thornton posted a double-double, going for 15 points, 10 rebounds and swatting five shots. Aliyah Collier (13 points, nine rebounds) was a board shy of a double-double, and Daniell Edwards netted 10 points and chipped in four rebounds, three steals and three blocks.
Down 49-36 entering the fourth quarter -- Prairie View trailed by as many as 20 in the third quarter -- the Lady Panthers slowly started chipping away at the deficit. After a Collier lay-up put Clemson up by 13, Hicks and Dobbins powered an 11-3 Lady Panther run that cut the Lady Tigers' deficit to five with 42 ticks left. However, that was as close as the Lady Panthers would get.
Prairie View started the contest hot, using a 9-2 run to close the first with a 13-6 lead. Clemson turned the tables in the next frame as the Lady Panthers were outscored 26-8, ultimately falling behind 32-21 at the break. Prairie View was narrowly outshot by Clemson 39.7 - 36.8 percent.
