MBB: Jefferson named SWAC Player of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) has recognized Texas Southern’s Demontrae Jefferson as the SWAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his outstanding performance during week 17 of the regular season.
This is the third time that Jefferson has captured the award this season as he won the award back on December 19 and November 14.

Jefferson averaged 27.5 points per game in the Tigers’ two victories at Southern (90-88) this past Thursday and at Alcorn State (78-71) this past Saturday to help Texas Southern earn the No. 3 seed in the upcoming SWAC Men’s Basketball Tournament that begins on Tuesday.
Jefferson shot 14-of-21 to score a game-high 36 points to go along with three rebounds, three assists and a steal as he played the entire game at Southern.
The sophomore guard followed that up with a 19-point performance with five assists and two steals at Alcorn State.
Despite just falling short of qualification for the league’s scoring crown, Jefferson has played in 22 games and has averaged a team-best 24.1 points per game and has converted on 41.9 percent of his 3-point attempts.
