Mississippi Valley State 79, Grambling State 74
GRAMBLING, LA. – The Grambling State University men’s basketball team had four players in double figures, but dropped a 79-74 decision to Mississippi Valley State in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game on Monday night at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
Grambling State (15-14 Overall, 11-5 SWAC) led by as many as 10 points with 10:44 remaining in the first half, but could not put the game away as Mississippi Valley State used a 26-8 run during the final 10 minutes of the half and never looked back.
Anthony Gaston paced the Tigers offense with 17 points, two rebounds and one steal. Ivy Smith, Jr. chipped in 16 points, five assists and four steals. DeVante Jackson added 13 points, eight rebounds and three blocks, while Nigel Ribeiro record 10 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Jordan Evans led Mississippi Valley State (4-26, 4-13) with 29 points and nine rebounds, while Dante Scott tallied 15 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, one block and two steals.

Prairie View A&M 71, Alabama A&M 58
PRAIRIE VIEW, TX – The Prairie View A&M University men’s basketball team closed out their home regular season after topping Alabama A&M University 71-58, Monday night at the William J. Nicks Building in SWAC action.
Dennis Jones and Gary Blackston paced the Panthers in the scoring department, registering 14 points apiece. Iwin Ellis tallied 11 points on 5-6 shooting from the floor, while J. D. Wallace had a double-double with 13 points and snatching 11 rebounds in 35 minutes of game action. Zachary Hamilton tallied nine points, six rebounds, and three assists in 27 minutes of action. Shaquille Preston chipped in with six points, three rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block off the bench for the Purple and Gold.
Andre Kennedy led the Bulldogs (2-27, 2-14 SWAC) with 12 points and seven rebounds.

Jackson State 51, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 48
JACKSON, MS – The Tigers took the lead for good on a jumper by Paris Collins with 11:44 remaining and traded baskets for the remainder to pick up the home win at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center.
Collins shot 8-of-17 to finish with 17 points, eight rebounds and four steals for JSU (12-17, 9-7 SWAC).
Lemmie Howard added 11 points and Maurice Rivers collected eight points, nine rebounds and three steals.
Travon Harper was the lone player for UAPB (11-19, 11-6 SWAC) to reach double digits in scoring with 10. Martaveous McKnight was held to seven points.
Texas Southern 95, Alabama State 77
HOUSTON, TX – Reginald Gee led three Alabama State players in double figures as the Hornets dropped a 95-77 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contest to Texas Southern on the road Monday night.
Gee finished with a team-high 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor, while Jacoby Ross added 16 points. Branden Johnson finished with 12 points and five rebounds in the loss.
Alabama State (7-21, 7-9 SWAC) and Texas Southern traded baskets for the majority of the first half until the Hornets pulled to within 23-20 with 7:20 to play in the half. Texas Southern answered with a 12-3 to push the lead to 35-23 with 3:58 to play in the half. The Hornets were able to get it down to eight with 1:32 to play in the half at 37-29, before Texas Southern closed the half on a 7-0 run for a 17-point halftime lead.
Texas Southern kept the momentum in the second half as Demontrae Jefferson and Derrick Bruce knocked down three-pointers to push the lead to 20. The Hornets continued to fight to get back into the contest, but couldn’t get it any closer than 17 in the final 20 minutes.
Derrick Bruce led Texas Southern (10-19, 10-6 SWAC) with 37 points, while Demontrae Jefferson added 34 for the Tigers who shot 49.2 (32-of-56) percent from the floor. They also shot 41.9 (13-of-31) percent from beyond the arc and 75 (18-of-24) percent from the free throw line.
