Arkansas-Pine Bluff 71, Alcorn State 59
PINE BLUFF, AR. – Martaveous McKnight shot 7-of-14 from the field and 9-of-14 from the free throw line to score a game-high 25 points to go along with six assists and two steals as the Golden Lions (5-14, 5-0 SWAC) remained undefeated in conference play on Monday afternoon at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
Charles Jackson had 17 points, three rebounds and three steals and Travon Harper nearly collected a double-double with 11 points, nine rebounds, two steals and a block for UAPB.
The Golden Lions lead by as many as 23 with 6:57 remaining in the second half.
A.J. Mosby had 10 points, four rebounds, four steals three assists for the Braves (5-14, 1-5 SWAC).
Southern 78, Mississippi Valley State 70 (OT)
ITTA BENA, MS – Jared Sam scored seven of his team-high 20 points and also grabbed nine rebounds to push the Jaguars (6-13, 2-4 SWAC) past Mississippi Valley State on the road at the R.W. Harrison Complex on Monday night.
Jamar Sandifer registered a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds while Emanuel Shepard also completed the feat with 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Jags.
Jordan Evans scored a career-high 41 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field and 15-of-18 from the free throw line including a bucket with four seconds remaining in regulation to send it into overtime for the Delta Devils (0-18, 0-5 SWAC).
Grambling State 79, Texas Southern 78
GRAMBLING, La. – Jason Perry-Murray tipped in a missed shot by Nigel Ribeiro with .03 of a second remaining as the Grambling State University men’s basketball team rallied in the final seconds to defeat Texas Southern, 79-78, in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game on Monday night at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
The Tigers (7-12 overall, 3-3 SWAC) led by as many as six points in the final 24 seconds, but watched as Texas Southern (3-15, 3-2 SWAC) stormed back to grab a 78-77 lead with six seconds remaining. After a timeout, Ribeiro got the ball and carried it over the timeline before dribbling the lane and laying a shot. His shot bounced off the cylinder and Murray snatched up the loose ball for the bucket with .03 of a second remaining.
Texas Southern had one final opportunity to win the game, but could not get a shot off.
Shirmane Thomas scored 20 of his career-high 27 points in the first half to lead Grambling State. Perry-Murray finished with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Ivy Smith, Jr., added 10 points and four assists before fouling out late in the second half.
Donte Clark paced Texas Southern with 27 points, three boards and three assists, while Trayvon Reed chipped in with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds, along with four blocked shots. Brian Carey registered 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Jackson State 79, Prairie View A&M 71
JACKSON, MS – Jeremiah Jefferson notched a game-high 28 points on 9-of-15 shooting (9-of-13 from 3-point range) as Jackson State (9-10, 6-0 SWAC) remained undefeated in SWAC play with a win against Prairie View A&M on Monday night at the Lee E. Williams Assembly Center.
Julian Daughtry and Darius Austin added 13 points apiece and Treshawn Bolden added 10 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Tigers.
Jackson State led by seven at the break and shot 48 percent from the floor as a team.
The Panthers (5-14, 2-3 SWAC) were led by J.D. Wallace, who posted a career-high 17 points and 12 rebounds in recording his second straight double double.
Gary Blackston had 16 points off the bench with seven rebounds, and Dennis Jones scored 15 with three rebounds and six assists.
