In the final set tied at 3, the Lady Tigers used a 7-2 run, capped by Diemend Richardson kill, to extend the advantage to 10-5.

Jackson State 3, Alcorn State 0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-17)

LORMAN, Miss. - Laura Funk put down 10 kills to lead Jackson State (3-18, 2-4 SWAC) to a 3-0 win over Alcorn State (2-26, 0-8) Thursday night at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.

Amanda Modesto added eight kills for the Lady Tigers, chipping in six digs. Sapphire Simpson was a dig shy of a double-double, posting 26 assists and nine digs.

Alondra Rivera Modesto led the Lady Braves with six kills. Daharri Thompkins added five kills. Fiapaipai Iosia made 18 digs, and Jasmine Chambers provided 11 assists.

Tied 9-9 at one point in the opening frame, Funk delivered three kills to spark a 10-2 JSU run that ultimately led to a 1-0 set advantage for the visitors. From there, Jackson State rode a 9-3 start to the next set to a 2-0 lead in the match and -- trailing 8-6 in set three -- took advantage of multiple miscues by Alcorn State that aided a 11-2 run and ultimately sealed it for the Lady Tigers.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff 3, Southern (25-15, 25-23, 25-20)

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - Behind Lisa Casimie's 12-kill effort, Arkansas-Pine Bluff (4-15, 3-3 SWAC) swept Southern (5-13, 5-3 SWAC) Thursday night at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.

Lauren Corby added eight kills on a stout .417 attack clip. Britney Sahlmann dished out 31 assists, and Jade Sanlin collected 20 digs to aid the Lady Lions' winning effort.

For Southern, Arabella Hall led with seven kills. Paige Hall had five blocks and three kills. Vaterra Calais put up 20 helpers and chipped in six digs.

After winning set one by double-digits, UAPB trailed for much of set two before a Casimie kill sparked 6-2 run -- which in Southern's case, was marred by several mistakes in the attack game -- that handed the Lady Lions a 15-13 lead. The sides battled to a 22-22 tie before the Jaguars committed two off-target attacks and Corby closed the deal with a set-winning spike.

The Jaguars appeared poised to extend the matter, building a 14-9 lead in set three. However, it was all UAPB after that point, as the Lady Lions outpointed Southern 16-6 the rest of the way.

Texas Southern 3, Prairie View A&M 1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-15)

TSU outhit the Lady Panthers by nearly double, posting a .248 attack clip compared to Prairie View's .127 in the department. PVAMU eeked out set one after shaking off a sluggish start and using a 5-1 lead to go from being down 12-11 to leading 16-13. TSU tied it at 22, but Franklin delivered a kill and a service ace to put Prairie View ahead 1-0.

From there, however, the match belonged to Texas Southern, who managed to put together strong starts in the ensuing periods -- 11-5 in set two, 10-3 in set three and 14-7 in set four -- that ultimately powered the Lady Tigers to eventual wins in each frame.

A back-and forth contest early, AAMU led 14-13 midway through set one before a Briana Dorsey kill sparked a quick 4-1 run that put Alabama State ahead 17-15. AAMU got no closer than one, as a 6-0 Hornet run sealed it for the visitors.

Alabama A&M controlled proceedings in set two, roaring out to a 10-6 start and building a 17-14 lead. Alabama State then turned things around with an 8-0 run that was aided by several miscues from the Lady Bulldogs.
