Lamar 14 Southern 12 (10 innings)

BATON ROUGE, La. – Southern fell to Lamar 14-12 in a wild affair that took extra innings in non-conference action on Wednesday.

After Lamar took the early lead with two runs in the first,  John Pope knocked in a double to right center to drive in a run and make the score 2-1 after one.

SUBR added two more runs in the second to take a 3-2 lead.  Courtland Simenaux hit an RBI single to drive in one run.  Ashanti Wheatley hit a solo home run to for the Jags second run of the inning and make the score 3-2 in favor of SUBR after two.

Lamar would take the lead in the fourth, scoring three runs in that frame, to make the score 7-4.

Southern answered in the bottom of the sixth.  Rashard Raine belted a three run home run to give the Jaguars the score at 7-6 lead after six.

Southern extended its lead in the bottom of the seventh.  The Jaguars scored one run on a wild pitch and another by way of a throwing error by Lamar in the inning, to take a 9-6 advantage.

Lamar took the lead again in the eighth, scoring five runs to make the score 11-9.

In the bottom of the eighth, Tyler LaPorte knocked in an RBI single for SUBR to make the score 12-10.

In the ninth, after Lamar scored one run in the top of the inning, The Jaguars scored two runs, which tied the score at 12-12, sending the game to extra innings.

In the extra frame, Lamar scored two runs, to make the score 14-12.  Southern was unable to score in the bottom of the 10th, giving Lamar the two-run victory.


Northwestern State 34 Mississippi Valley State 0

NATCHOITOCHES, La. – Mississippi Valley State fell 34-0 on Wednesday to Northwestern State.

The Delta Devils did not have an answer in the contest.  MVSU was unable to keep pace offensively. 

Kanaikai Gaughen went 2 for 4 form the plate in the defeat for MVSU/  The Delta Devils were limited to just four hits in the loss.
