Baseball Players of the Week: March 12
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Christian Sanchez and Aaron Solis, both of Texas Southern have been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball hitter and pitcher of the week for their performances over the past week of competition.
Hitter of the Week
Christian Sanzhez (Texas Southern)
DH - 6-1 - Jr. - San Juan, Texas
Sanchez hit three home runs and a double during TSU’s three games this week, including two in the team’s 8-1 win at Southern on Saturday. Sanchez batted .286 with four RBIs and slugged .929 for the week. In the Tigers’ 8-1 win at Southern, he hit solo home runs in his first two at-bats (totaling three pitches), and then knocked an RBI double in his next at-bat in the fifth inning. Sanchez also homered in a non-conference game at Stephen F. Austin.
Pitcher of the Week
Aaron Solis (Texas Southern)
P - 5-11 - Jr. - Smith, Ala.
Solis picked up the win as TSU’s starting pitcher in his only appearance for the Tigers this week. Solis pitched 7 1/3 innings while not allowing an earned run as he led the Tigers to an 8-1 win at Southern on Saturday. Solis struck out four batters and scattered only three hits while walking two. He has two of the team’s three wins this season.
