ALST's Cage Cox Named to Freshman All-American Team
TUCSON, Ariz. – Alabama State University freshman Cage Cox earned another postseason honor on Wednesday as he was selected to the Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-American team.
Cox, who was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Freshman of the Year, led the Hornets in four categories: batting average (.350), runs scored (53) and hits (75). He registered 17 doubles (tied for first), seven home runs and two triples. Cox, who belted a school record three homers in a 16-4 win over Grambling State, drove in 45 and scored 53 times.
The Cairo, Ga. native was a two-time SWAC Hitter of the Week selection and ranked fifth in the SWAC in batting, first in doubles and second in doubles per game.
Alabama State concluded its season at the SWAC Tournament, falling 4-2 in 13 innings to Texas Southern in the championship game.
