Baseball Players of the Week: April 9
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Marshawn Taylor of Grambling State and Tyler Laux of Prairie View A&M have been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball pitcher and hitter of the week for their performances over the past week of the regular season.
Hitter of the Week
Marshawn Taylor (Grambling State)
SS - 5-10 - Sr., Chicago, Ill.
Taylor, who was named the SWAC Hitter of the Week last week, batted .643, with a .688 on-base percentage and a 1.071 slugging percentage in three SWAC games last week. He went 9-for-14 at the plate with a team-high 10 RBIs and four runs scored. Taylor registered three triples, including when the bases were loaded in a 18-11 10th-inning victory. Also, Taylor drew two walks during the week. Defensively, Taylor had six assists and two putouts. This is the second consecutive week that Taylor had been named hitter of the week.
Pitcher of the Week
Tyler Laux (Prairie View A&M)
P - 6-5 - Sr. - Chicago, Ill.
Laux threw his first career complete game in 12-2 eight-inning win over Grambling State on Saturday. In the win, he tossed a career-high in innings pitched, allowed two unearned runs, yielding five hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Laux shutout Grambling over final six innings and retired seven batters in row to end the game.
