NEWS AND NOTES

- Alabama State has clinched the SWAC regular-season crown and the No. 1 seed in the 2017 SWAC Volleyball Tournament, but there’s still plenty of seeding to decide. Alabama A&M, the current No. 2 seed, could officially wrap that particular spot up tonight when it heads down I-65 to take on the rival Lady Hornets tonight on the SWAC Digital Network.

- Alabama A&M’s Syretha Pride ranks second nationally in solo blocks (35).

- Southern and Grambling State have announced the date and time of their makeup contest that was originally postponed due to the events of Hurricane Harvey. The teams will face off twice in a six-day span, with the makeup match set for Nov. 11 at 11:30 a.m. in Baton Rouge, La.

- Reigning setter of the week Erica Jimenez had a weekend to remember, as she set career-highs in assists on back-to-back weeks. As Prairie View got key wins over Grambling State and Southern, Jimenez had her first two matches with 40 assists or more in her collegiate career, with 40 versus Grambling State and 46 versus Southern.

- Grambling State’s Chasity Nicks (318) and Kevreion Ward (300) are currently the only set of teammates in the SWAC that each have amassed 300 kills or more this season.

- MVSU’s Kalin Barnes needs 22 kills over the Devilettes remaining three contests to become the first player in the league this season to post at least 300 kills and 300 digs.

- Alabama State has four players -- Briana Dorsey, Payten Clark, Krysta Medearis and Ni’yesha Brown -- slotted in the top 10 of conference ranks when it comes to hitting percentage.
