Volleyball Players of the Week: October 24
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama State middle blocker Briana Dorsey, outside hitter Bayle' Bennett, setter Kori Kutsch and Texas Southern middle blocker Kirby Anderson been recognized as Southwestern Athletic Conference Volleyball Players of the Week for their standout performances in matches played from Oct. 17-22.
Offensive Player of the Week - Briana Dorsey, Alabama State

Dorsey finished the week with 61 kills in six matches, averaging 3.05 kills per set. She finished the week with 100 total attempts, hitting .500 for the week. She also finished with a pair of service aces offensively for the Lady Hornets. The senior hit .500 or better in three conference matches over the weekend (.571 against Southern, .500 against Grambling State and .647 against Prairie View A&M). She hit over .400 in the other three matches of the week. Dorsey recorded double digit kills against Prairie View A&M (12), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (12) and Texas Southern (14). While doing all the work offensively, Dorsey also finished with 19 blocks which was good for an average of 0.95 blocks per set.
Defensive Player of the Week - Bayle' Bennett, Alabama State

Known as an offensive player, Bennett led the Lady Hornets’ defense this week in six matches in not only digs but blocks as well. The sophomore finished the week with 48 total digs, averaging 2.40 digs per set. However, she did not stop there as she finished with 15 total blocks for Alabama State averaging 0.75 blocks per set. The sophomore not only did it on the defensive end, she finished with 54 kills (averaging 2.70 on the week). Bennett recorded a pair of double-doubles on the weekend against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (13 kills and 11 digs) and Texas Southern (15 kills and 11 digs). She recorded six digs against Troy, seven digs and three blocks against Southern, while recording eight digs against Grambling State. Bennett finished the week off with 11 digs and three blocks against UAPB, along with 11 digs and four blocks against Texas Southern.
Setter of the Week - Kori Kutsch, Alabama State

Kutsch finished the week with a team-high 132 assists in six matches, averaging 6.60 assists per set in those matches. She also finished with a pair of kills and a pair of service aces, while recording 28 digs in the six matches. The junior recorded 20 or more assists in the five conference matches over the weekend, including a team-high 28 against Texas Southern. She also finished with 24 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and 23 against Southern. She completed the week with 20 against Grambling State and 21 against Prairie View A&M.
Newcomer of the Week - Kirby Anderson, Texas Southern

Anderson tallied 32 total blocks and hit .385 or better in six matches this week as the Lady Tigers defeated Jarvis Christian and went 4-1 at the second SWAC volleyball roundup. After knocking down seven kills on eight attempts (hitting .875) in a win over Alcorn State to open the weekend, Anderson put away 11 kills apiece in the next three matches (all wins), hitting at least .500 in each of those contests. In wins over Alabama A&M and Mississippi Valley, Anderson was in on seven blocks. She finished the weekend with a 15-kill, .385-percent showing in a five-set loss to Alabama State. For the weekend, Anderson had 60 kills and hit .655 in six matches.
