Volleyball Players of the Week: September 26
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama State's Bayle' Bennett and Alabama A&M's Meredith Sieck and Helena Figuieredo have been recognized as Southwestern Athletic Conference Volleyball Players of the Week for their standout play from Sept. 19 -24.
Offensive Player of the Week – Bayle' Bennett, Alabama State

Bennett reached double figure kills in all six matches this week for the Lady Hornets, leading the team to a perfect 6-0 record. For the week, she finished with 80 kills in 23 sets, averaging 3.48 kills per set. She hit .280 over the six matches on 200 total attempts, while also recording four service aces. The sophomore also finished with 53 digs (2.30 digs/set) and scored a team-high 87 points over the six-match stretch. Bennett recorded three double-doubles in the six matches (UAB, Southern and UAPB), which included a career-high 20 kills to go along with 14 digs against Southern. The sophomore recorded 14 kills against UAPB and Texas Southern each, to go along with 11 against Grambling State and Prairie View A&M.
Defensive Player of the Week – Helena Figuieredo, Alabama A&M

Figuieredo notched a total of 93 digs in six matches this week, over which time Alabama A&M won five of its six matches. After picking up eight digs versus Jacksonville State, the sophomore reeled off five straight contests with double-digit dig totals, posting 11 against Prairie View A&M, 16 against Texas Southern, 12 against Grambling, 21 against Southern, and a career-best 25 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Figuieredo averaged 4.42 digs per set as the Lady Bulldogs got off to a 5-0 start in conference play.
Setter and Newcomer of the Week – Meredith Sieck, Alabama A&M

Sieck led the team in assists with 200 over the course of six matches, notching 13 versus Jacksonville State, 20 against Prairie View A&M, a career-best 50 against Texas Southern, 30 against Grambling, 38 against Southern and 49 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Averaged 11.11 assists per set as AAMU went 5-1 in those matches, including a 5-0 ledger during the SWAC West Volleyball Roundup. She also added 50 digs over this span. Sieck has the top two single-game highs in terms of assists by a SWAC player this season. Her 50 assists versus Texas Southern are the most in one game by a SWAC player since 2015, and Sieck is the first SWAC player to achieve this mark in four sets since Ashley Forman of PVAMU accomplished this in 2013.
