Tougaloo College 3, Grambling State 2 (11-25, 28-26, 25-22, 17-25, 15-13)

GRAMBLING, La. - Tougaloo College committed just three errors in the final set as the Lady Bulldogs stunned the Grambling State University volleyball team, 3-2, on Thursday night at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.

Tougaloo's Carolyne Edwards finished with 13 kills, while Megan Besecker added 12 to pace the Lady Bulldogs attack. Alexandra Jwainat recorded a double-double of 38 assists and 21 digs. Kayla Cole paved the way defensively with 25 digs, while Taylor Kangethe chipped in with 19.

Grambling State (4-11) had three players finish in double-digit kills.

Chasity Nicks finished with a match-high 19 kills and 13 digs, while Talicia Lang registered 16 kills and 13 digs. Kevreion Ward chipped in with 19 kills. Diemend Richardson and L’Muriell Thrower added 30 and 21 assists, respectively. Richardson also poured in 17 digs for the double-double. Erineka Moolere led the way defensively with 26 digs. 

Grambling State cruised through the opening set with a 25-11 win. The Lady Tigers and Lady Bulldogs battled in the second set with Tougaloo edging Grambling State for the 28-26 win to tie the match 1-1. The Lady Bulldogs came out of intermission and grabbed a 2-1 lead after a 25-22 victory. However, the Lady Tigers showed a lot of energy in the fourth set to pick up a 25-17 win and force their second consecutive five-set match.

In the final set, Grambling State took the first two points, but Tougaloo reeled off the next five to grab a 5-2 advantage. With the match tied at 9, the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Tigers, 6-4, down the stretch to pick up the 3-2 victory.

There were 34 ties and 18 lead changes, including eight ties and five lead changes in the fifth set.
